Nathan Gardner
Nathan is a highly accomplished UK based Pilates teacher trainer and functional movement specialist. A prominent figure in the Pilates community, he has presented and lectured all over the world and is renowned for his innovative and highly effective cut to the chase approach to movement teaching. Co-author of the highly successful title ‘The Pilates Bible’, Nathan has over thirty years’ experience in physical and mental conditioning. He has worked with a vast array of clients in that time, including Olympic athletes and West End performers. He is currently utilising his own functional movement approach to assist performing arts students recovering from injury in the treatment department of the prestigious Urdang Academy in London.
Movement teaching education is Nathan’s primary focus, as founder of NRG Pilates. He and his team provide ongoing education and professional development for qualified movement practitioners, including Pilates teachers, dance teachers and physical therapists. Alongside his own movement teaching education programme, he continues to present courses for the UK’s leading Pilates Education provider, Body Control Pilates. Helping to develop much of their education programme since 2007, his most recent contributions to their programme include the ‘Pilates for Performance’ course, with follow on courses for ‘Dancers’ and ‘Runners’.
Much of his knowledge and insight stems from his time as professional athlete. Successfully representing Great Britain as a freestyle mogul skier at World Cup and Olympic level between 1992-1998, Nathan was unfortunately forced to retire prematurely due to injury prior the 1998 Winter Olympic Games. It was this premature exit from his competitive career that set him on a new path which he still following today. Nathan’s involvement in elite-level sport and injury rehabilitation alongside an on-going career in the fitness industry which began back in 1987, have all contributed to his intuitive understanding of human movement. This understanding has been further enhanced through on-going study and professional development along the way.
